1.  Booker T. Washington National Monument

The Booker T. Washington National Monument highlights the civil war and what it meant to Franklin County. This place talks of the dreams of people like Booker. He lifted the veil of ignorance and wanted to get out of the bondage of slavery to live a life of education, dignity, and respect. 

You can go on the ranger-guided walking tour to learn about the rich history of this place. Entrance to the park is free to the public and represents the emancipation of those who did not enjoy freedom in their time. Also, do not miss the map for this place here.

2.  Jubal A. Early Homeplace

Located near Boones Mill, The Jubal Early Homeplace and Archaeological Site is another famous spot known for being on one of the two Virginia Civil War Trails. The 200-year-old home of General Jubal Anderson Early stands here, representing Virginia and its history. Jubal A. Early was a politician, lawyer and Civil War General with a very interesting life. 3.  Blue Ridge Institute and Museum

Blue Ridge Institute and Museum provide educational and entertaining programs while focusing on Virginia’s Heritage Music Trail. Here’s a link to some of the fantastic events they offer. The Institute focuses on the folklore and music of Franklin County. There are several different styles of music in the region, all unique among themselves.
