1. The Water’s Edge Country Club
The Water’s Edge Country Club is a private golf club designed by R.F. Loving, Jr. Located at 1825 Waters Edge Drive, the 18-hole Championship golf course is known as one of the best designs in the area. R. F. Loving, Jr, a nationally renowned golf course architect that also designed another local course, Hunting Hills Country Club as well.
The course has views of the mountain with its 13.5-mile stretch along the shoreline in Penhook. Information about membership is available on their website.
2. Hunting Hills Country Club
Hunting Hills Country Club opened in 1971 and was also designed by the late R.F. Loving, Jr. The 18-hole championship golf course is both enjoyable and challenging to golfers of all levels.
It is at 5220 Hunting Hills Drive, at the stunning foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains and has all the amenities you’d expect from a country club.
There are several membership levels to choose from.
3. Willow Creek Country Club
The Willow Creek Country Club at 10500 Virgil H. Goode Highway (Route 220) is a full length, 9-hole golf course in Rocky Mount, Va. This offers a cozy feel on the 75-acre property. What’s best is, they offer a banquet facility, where members and stockholders get a reduced rate.
Information on memberships is a little vague but it looks like the rates are annual rates. With a rating of 7.8 on Facebook plus a reduced rate, getting a membership with Willow Creek Country Club is a great idea!
4. Bedford Disc Golf
Is disc golf your game? Check out the Bedford Disc Golf at 1257 County Farm Road. This golf course is maintained by Bedford County Parks & Recreation. Come out and play at the Bedform Disc Golf, designed for beginners and advanced disc golfers. It has 36 holes and two 18-hole courses, the RED and the YELLOW.
Both have the same tees on 1-9 holes but split and go in different directions on the back 9. YELLOW course is longer and more open, while RED is shorter but tighter and wooded. This golf course has something for everyone!
5. The Mariners Landing Golf
The famous Mariners Landing Golf is a championship, 18 hole course designed by world famous Robert Trent Jones, Sr. Located at 2052 Lake Retreat Road, the course amenities include a challenging course, practice green, and driving range.
The club offers the usual amenities but the unique amenities include boat docking on Smith Mountain Lake. It’s a beautiful place to belong. Depending on whether or not they’re running a special, there is an initiation fee to join. Call Mariners Landing for more information.
They also host one of the well-known tournaments in the region. The Andrew Haley Memorial and the SML Lions Junior golf tournament.
